Lip Fillers at Greenwich Medical Spa

Whether your lips have always been thinner than you’d like or have become less shapely over time, lip injections can add volume and definition for a luscious look.

One of the most popular non-surgical cosmetic services offered at Greenwich Medical Spa, lip fillers can reshape your mouth and restore balance and symmetry to your face while providing younger-looking, voluminous lips.

Achieving your desired results from lip filler depends on a thorough understanding of the procedure and an open discussion with your practitioner. We’ll walk you through what lip fillers are, how they work, and what you can expect come treatment time.

What is Lip Filler?

One of the most popular types of dermal filler, lip fillers are gel-like substances injected under the skin to help enhance lip definition, volume, and fullness. At Greenwich Medical Spa, the lip fillers we use are FDA-approved and includes two different brands—Juvederm and Restylane.

What is Lip Filler made of?

Lip fillers are most often made of synthetic hyaluronic acid (HA), a water-attracting substance that is naturally produced in the body. By using a hyaluronic acid-based solution, lip filler adds natural-looking volume and can augment your lip shape. Individuals who are concerned about thin lips, notice volume loss in their lips, or are looking to improve their lip shape, may want to consider lip filler. According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, HA fillers are in the top five most popular non-surgical treatments available on the market and can be performed with no downtime.

Different Types of Lip Filler

At Greenwich Medical Spa, we offer several lip filler options including Restylane, Juvederm Ultra, and two newer Juvederm treatments—Vollure and Volbella. While all use a hyaluronic acid formula, they vary in molecular weight and treatment purpose. Your practitioner will pick the treatment that’s right for you based on your individual goals and preferences, always using long-lasting lip filler products for extended satisfaction.

Do lip fillers work right away?

Juvederm fillers work right away. As soon as the dermal filler is injected, it starts to spread throughout the treatment area, volumizing it. However, you may not experience the full effects of treatment immediately. The filler needs time to settle fully and take full effect. Therefore, you should expect your final results to become apparent a few days after your injections. Restylane treatments may be seen a few days following the treatment.

What impacts lip filler longevity?

Several things impact how long your lip filler lasts, namely your metabolism and your move movement.

Lip Filler and Metabolism

Your metabolism regulates how quickly you can break down calories—and break down lip filler. People with higher metabolisms will experience shorter filler results because their bodies will break the filler compound down faster than those with slower metabolisms.

Lip Filler and Mouth Movement

Hyaluronic acid is held together by bonds and constant movement will cause these bonds to eventually break down. So, how much you move your lips—like talking or chewing—directly correlates to how quickly your lip filler will break down.

A great way to prolong your fillers is to not expose them to stress or pressure. Try to sleep on your back, as this removes pressure that will agitate the filler. Be gentle with your skin, and don’t push on your lips during your skincare routine. When you move and poke fillers, they break down faster, so the more delicate you are with your fillers, the longer they will last.

Getting Lip Filler at

Greenwich Medical Spa

Starting your lip filler treatment process is an exciting time. Here’s what you can expect:

Initial consultation

You’ll meet with your practitioner to discuss your lip filler goals and work together to develop a treatment plan tailored to your needs.

Treatment Appointment:

    • Before Pictures: Pre-treatment photos will be taken to visually monitor and compare the progression of your dermal filler treatments.
    • Numbing of treatment area: A topical numbing cream is applied prior to the treatment for about 30 minutes.
    • Injection of product: Your practitioner gently injects the product in small quantities at several points under the skin, using a cannula or needle. Lip fillers should take only around 10-15 minutes to inject and contain lidocaine, which offers localized pain relief to make your experience as comfortable as possible.
    • Massage product in the treatment area: After the injection, your practitioner will gently massage your lips to evenly distribute the product.
    • Icing treatment area: Following the treatment, you’ll be provided with an ice pack to help reduce inflammation. Ice in increments of about 10 minutes to beat potential swelling.
    • After Pictures: All lip augmentation photos are taken immediately post-injections. Patients typically experience swelling for about a week and the lips will settle and look the most natural at two weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions About Lip Filler

How long will my lip filler results last?

The lip fillers we use at Greenwich Medical Spa are made of hyaluronic acid. This substance occurs naturally in the body and is absorbed naturally and safely by the body, so results from lip fillers are not permanent. Depending on the type of product, the effects of these injections can last from 3 months to 2 years.

How much do lip fillers cost?

The cost of lip fillers can vary based on factors like the number of syringes needed for your desired aesthetic outcome. As a VIP Member, you can anticipate a cost of $635 – $830 per syringe, while non-members can expect to pay $750 – $975 per syringe.

What is the difference between Juvéderm and Restylane?

Juvéderm and Restylane products are both made from hyaluronic acid. Overall, we find results and longevity are similar. However, each brand has created special formulas to treat specific areas and issues. We strive to match the product to each client’s individual needs.

Does getting lip filler injections hurt?

Before injecting fillers, we apply a topical numbing cream. Additionally, most fillers today contain a bit of lidocaine, so discomfort is minimal. We use a fine needle, and while you may experience slight burning or stinging, these sensations quickly resolve.

When will I see the results of my lip filler injections?

You will notice a difference immediately, with final results appearing in about a week when the product has had time to settle and any swelling has abated.

Which conditions respond best to dermal fillers?

Lines, folds, hollows, and loss of facial volume can all be treated with dermal fillers. You might describe these issues as a tired or mad look, wrinkles, sunken cheeks, or jowls. With the variety of filler options we offer, we can get to the cause of issue you can see, and know where to inject just the right product to handle it.

Is there any downtime required after lip filler injections?

There is usually no downtime or recovery time needed after lip filler injections. You may experience soreness or swelling and bruising at the site of injection for a few days to a week, but it will soon subside. Please see our pre & post care for fillers for more detailed information.

Can you drink after lip fillers?

It might be tempting to pop the champagne and toast your results, but alcohol can act as a blood thinner, which can make you more susceptible to bruising and swelling. We recommend waiting 24 hours before consuming alcohol.

Can you eat after lip fillers?

Your lips may be sensitive to hot and cold temperatures, and thanks to numbing the lips, it can be harder to eat and drink straight after your treatment. Stick to easy-to-eat foods and drinks that don’t require you to wipe your lips, and avoid salty foods, which can make swelling worse and cause dehydration.

Can I put lip balm on after lip fillers?

We suggest avoiding makeup in the first 24 hours after treatment. That’s because the area will be sensitive, and touching around the injection sites could cause pain, infection or product displacement.

What other treatments complement dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are often used in combination with each other and with BOTOX. Because no two faces age identically, creating a treatment plan targeted to your individual needs and utilizing the appropriate combination of injectables allows us to restore your youthful appearance. Our goal is for you to look like yourself, just younger.
