Women’s Sexual Health & Vaginal Rejuvenation

Women’s sexual wellness is an essential aspect of overall health, but it’s often overlooked or not openly discussed. At Greenwich Medical Spa (GMS), we understand the importance of intimate well-being and offer advanced, non-surgical treatments designed to help women feel more confident, comfortable, and satisfied. This blog post will explore the importance of sexual wellness, discuss the services GMS provides, and guide readers on how to start their journey toward feeling their best—inside and out.

Sexual Health & Overall Well-Being

Historically, conversations about sexual health have largely centered on the negative health effects linked to it. Topics such as sexually transmitted infections (STIs), HIV/AIDS, unintended pregnancies, and sexual coercion have been the main focus for experts in this area. However, in recent years, particularly over the last decade, there has been a noticeable change as more people from diverse fields are beginning to investigate the positive aspects of sexual health. Research shows that sexual health is closely linked to physical health, mental well-being, and overall life satisfaction, highlighting the importance of sexual satisfaction, self-esteem, and pleasure.¹

Sexual health can contribute to stronger relationships and even play a role in reducing stress and enhancing immune function; a lack of sexual satisfaction can negatively affect mood, relationship quality, and overall life satisfaction, emphasizing the importance of addressing women’s sexual needs and concerns.

Key points about sexual satisfaction and women’s health:

Women’s sexual health is about much more than being able to engage in sex. It’s about the health of your physical, emotional, and psychological well-being.

Emotional well-being: Achieving sexual satisfaction can boost self-esteem, confidence, and feelings of intimacy within a relationship, which are crucial for mental health.

Physical health benefits: Regular sexual activity can contribute to positive physical health outcomes like lower blood pressure, improved sleep, and potentially reduced risk of certain chronic diseases.

Stress reduction: Orgasms trigger the release of oxytocin, a hormone associated with relaxation and stress relief.

Relationship quality: A fulfilling sexual life is a key component of a healthy and satisfying relationship, promoting bonding and communication between partners.

Impact on mental health: Lack of sexual satisfaction can be linked to increased risk of depression, anxiety, and decreased overall life satisfaction.

Hormones & Sexual Health

Throughout a woman’s life, hormonal fluctuations during different stages, such as pregnancy and menopause, can impact sexual health in profound ways.

How Hormonal Imbalances Can Affect Sexual Function

Hormonal imbalances can significantly impact sexual function in women. Conditions like polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), menopause, or thyroid disorders can disrupt hormone levels, leading to symptoms such as reduced libido, vaginal dryness, and challenges in achieving arousal and orgasm.²

Hormonal changes during pregnancy and postpartum can also influence sexual function. Changes in hormone levels after labor can impact sexual function and affect desire and arousal. Most women do not resume sexual activity for 6-8 weeks after labor. However, within three months of the delivery, 80-93% of new mothers resume intercourse. One scientific journal found that during this time, two out of three women experience at least one problem connected to sexual functioning, including decreased libido, difficulty achieving orgasm, vaginal dryness or dyspareunia (painful sexual intercourse).. Decreased sexual activity in the postnatal period may result from reduced interest in sex, postpartum pain, tender breasts, and leaking milk.³

One of the factors affecting sexual functioning after childbirth is the shift in body image. Many women experience a decline in self-esteem during and after pregnancy due to physical changes and the adjustments required for motherhood, which can lead to a loss of personal identity.

Hormonal Changes in Menopause

Menopause marks the end of the reproductive years, accompanied by a decline in estrogen and progesterone. These hormonal shifts can lead to a range of physical and emotional changes, including vaginal dryness, reduced libido, and changes in sexual satisfaction. Recognizing these changes and pursuing both medical and emotional support is essential for those navigating this phase.

Common Concerns Addressed by Sexual Wellness Treatments

  • Vaginal laxity and dryness
  • Loss of sensation or discomfort during intercourse
  • Urinary incontinence or frequent leaks
  • Reduced sexual desire or confidence related to intimate health

Vaginal Rejuvenation Treatments at Greenwich Medical Spa

If you’ve begun to experience changes to the look and feel of your vaginal area – inside or out – we offer several non-invasive treatments. These include energy-based therapies that stimulate collagen production, restore tissue elasticity, and improve lubrication.

ThermiVa

A non-invasive treatment, ThermiVa uses controlled radio frequency to heat vaginal tissue, which then naturally produces collagen. The increased collagen leaves you renewed and rejuvenated.

ThermiVa Benefits Include:

  • Promotes vaginal tightness
  • Tightens external vaginal tissue
  • Increases blood circulation
  • Improves vaginal moisture
  • Reverses the physical changes caused by pregnancy
  • No downtime
  • Improvement from the first treatment

V-Lift

Many women develop laxity and loss of volume in the outer vaginal lips (labia majora) as they age. After childbirth and around menopause are common times when women notice this problem. The wrinkling and laxity can be addressed non-surgically with the injection of dermal fillers, like Juvederm or Voluma in the outer vaginal lips (V-Lift). V-Lift treatment can last up to 2 years.

How V-Lift Works

At Greenwich Medical Spa, we apply a topical numbing cream prior to using a very tiny gauge needle to inject Voluma into the labia majora to help conceal the labia minora to create a more balanced look. There is no down time with this treatment and you can go back to your daily activities right after the treatment.

If you are thinking about vaginal rejuvenation and are not ready for a more invasive vaginal surgery or do not have the down time, you may be a good candidate for the V-lift.

PRP Therapy

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) is another noninvasive treatment that can be used in intimate areas to promote tissue rejuvenation, increase sensitivity, and support healthy blood flow.

PRP uses your own plasma to try to restore the cells and tissues in your body. Research shows that the concentrated level of repair cells that are found in plasma—platelets, growth factors, and cytokines—is involved in the rejuvenation process. The cells enhance the formation of collagen and new blood vessels.

PRP for vaginal repair is usually to treat atrophy and dryness, stress urinary incontinence, or lichen sclerosus (a chronic inflammatory condition, most likely to occur during and after menopause).

V-Shot

The V-Shot is a nonsurgical treatment that uses injections of our proprietary serum to stimulate the health of the vaginal area. When this serum is injected into the clitoris and vagina, you will enjoy enhanced sensitivity, fullness and lubrication.

The V-Shot involves injecting PRP, derived from your blood, into targeted areas of the vaginal tissue. The PRP stimulates:

  • Tissue regeneration
  • Collagen production
  • Increased blood flow

This results in enhanced sensation, improved function, and better overall vaginal health.
